Ortega Highway Motorcycle Accident 7-29-2012
I unfortunately today was the second person on scene to a bad motorcycle accident on the Ortega Highway. At around 2:30pm, a Harley Davidson, and it's passenger were ejected from the motorcycle while travelling west on the Ortega Highway near the narrow bridge. The bike was damaged beyond repair, and the passenger was transported to the hospital by ambulance. The driver of the motorcycle was transported by helicopter to the nearest hospital. His condition is unknown but I don't believe he was breathing while being transported to the helicopter.
On a personal note- I hate seeing things like this, let alone being one of the first people on scene. The response time, and effectiveness of the paramedics, and medical staff was impressive. I'm an active motorcyclist, and it reminds you how careful you have to be. The road conditions today were not conducive to safe travel. There was roadwork, and the pavement was ground down on one side of the two lane road. There is no room for error on a good day while driving the Ortega Highway. Utmost care must be used while riding, and I most often see very aggressive riding in the area.

Outdoor Retailer Show
It's only one week away from the 2012 summer Outdoor Retailer Show. The show occurs every summer in Salt Lake City Utah, and is the main show for the outdoor industry. Throughout the one week show, the outdoor clothing and gear manufacturers show the upcoming designs and products that will fill the retailers in the spring.
I've never had the opportunity to attend the show, as it's only open to internal industry employees, and retail buyers. This year that is all changing. I'm flying form Orange County to Salt Lake on Saturday to get a chance to look and feel all the new gear.
I promise to report back with details ofall the latest gear, so you can plan now for budgeting for next years gear. Stay tuned....

Tour de Southwest
I haven't been blogging like I should be but I promise to catch up
this weekend. My mother and I decided last minute to do a road trip
through the southwest US. It's been great and the last two days
promise to carry on the same. Off to Death Valley today for a few days.

Overland Expo 2011
It's been a hot weekend here in Amado Arizona. The 2011 Overland Wxpo
is winding down and I am in the back of a sportsmobile on my way home
as I write this. It's been a great weekend. I've been able to catch up
with great friends and make some new ones too. I conducted a program
on off road technology that was very well attended and had good
responses. I look forward to coming down again.

DeVotchKa
Friday night, my new friend Johanna and I had a great time at Devotchka. The Belly Up tavern in Solana Beach is a cool small theater, and a great place to see a show. The music was rockin as awlways, and the funky eclectic music was a good reminder of my home. I can't say enough about how nice it is to see great musicians on stage together. No fluff, no washed out sounds, just good old fashioned music.
Hopefully you'll be hearing more about Johanna in future posts:) Also anyone who hasn't heard of the band should check out their music on Itunes.

Overland Expo 2011
Hey everyone. You've probably noticed that I've been off the grid for a while now. Things are going fairly well, but I have been way too busy. A couple of you have asked when I am going to be out in the Colorado area again. Well, I don't know, but I am representing Land Rover at the 2001 Overland Expo April 1-3. I am doing a presentation on new vehicle technology. I've put a lot of effort into making it informative, and interesting at the same time.
So if anyone is down in the Tuscon area, come hit me up. I've never been to the event, but I have heard great things about it. Also, the complete Camel Trophy contention is coming down. They are a great group, and I'd be happy to introduce any of you to them.
Also, I've been working on some trip reports. If anybody needs a support guy this summer, let me know. I am probably going to be available as it turns out.
