I unfortunately today was the second person on scene to a bad motorcycle accident on the Ortega Highway. At around 2:30pm, a Harley Davidson, and it's passenger were ejected from the motorcycle while travelling west on the Ortega Highway near the narrow bridge. The bike was damaged beyond repair, and the passenger was transported to the hospital by ambulance. The driver of the motorcycle was transported by helicopter to the nearest hospital. His condition is unknown but I don't believe he was breathing while being transported to the helicopter.
On a personal note- I hate seeing things like this, let alone being one of the first people on scene. The response time, and effectiveness of the paramedics, and medical staff was impressive. I'm an active motorcyclist, and it reminds you how careful you have to be. The road conditions today were not conducive to safe travel. There was roadwork, and the pavement was ground down on one side of the two lane road. There is no room for error on a good day while driving the Ortega Highway. Utmost care must be used while riding, and I most often see very aggressive riding in the area.
